Hard to Find Lovies- For a HTF Shell WINNERS!

fran·tic- adjective (ˈfran-tik)

Definition of FRANTIC

1) archaic : mentally deranged
2) emotionally out of control (frantic with anger and frustration)
3) marked by fast and nervous, disordered, or anxiety-driven activity (made a frantic search for the lost cloth diaper)

This is the word that describes me as I am searching high and low for my child's lost lovie. Why you ask? Well most parents would agree that when it comes to lovies it always happens to be that they fall in love with the one that you got from a baby shower from Aunt Jackie and she got it from a boutique shop she found when she was on vacation in Hawaii and there is no way you can just drive to the store and buy a new one. Even if you could just go and buy a new one it would never look, smell, or feel like what your child had made theirs into.

There is Hope!

Thanks to social media, there are now groups and pages on facebook for posting found and lost lovies! Can you believe that! Seriously how awesome are some people that find a dirty, smelly (looks-like-it-got-ran over-a-couple-times-and-spit-on- lovie) They bring it home with them and post it on facebook! lol

There are also a couple websites that do this same thing, like: http://www.lostmylovey.com/ and http://plushmemories.com/

You can usually find some on eBay as well. Unfortunately lots of eBay sellers know that parents are desperate to replace their child lovie so prices are usually marked sky high.

The only way to avoid this all together is never give your kid a security blanket/ item or give them one that isn't going out of style.. like a kitchen towel .. haha good luck. Like I said earlier its inevitable that your child will find comfort in the most HTF item out there..

Speaking of HTF things..

Giveaway Contest is Closed. Thanks everyone who participated, we got some really great ideas of what to do if your kids lose their favorite toy or lovie!! Congrats to the winners of the HTF SoftBums shells . Please email info@SoftBums.com to claim your prize. <

  1. Our daughter rotates between a few stuffed animals as her lovies. So I guess we're lucky. If she can't find the one she had, we just grab the other. They aren't even the same animal, but she loves her Nana (bear), hop-hop (bunny), and baa (lamb). She named them :)

  2. My son isn't too attached to a certain toy or lovie, but he JUST started to carry his Mickey Mouse and his LeapFrog Scout pal around with him everywhere, so I'm seeing this on the horizon! We have left Scout at Nana's once so far and he wanted to go get him but we were able to convince him we could get him next time. I hope he continues to be so easy to please!!

  3. We have a back-up! lol. So if one goes missing, I can just pull the other one out of her dresser!

  4. My daughter freaks out if she can't find her purple puppy! Nothing can replace it

  5. We told her that the fairies came and got it for a child who really needed it. She took that amazingly well, she was about 2.5. She was familiar with the concept because when she turned 2 we put all of her binkies in a gift bag and hung them on the tree outside our house for the same reason. It seems giving is easier for her to accept than losing lol.

  6. Luckily my daughter only has a blanket and we were able to find a similar one when we left home without it. :-)

  7. I get Monkey 2 out. He has three identical Monkeys, but he knows the difference. He will take Monkey 2 if needed. Monkey 3.... no way in heck. That reminds me the main Monkey needs a wash... >.<

  8. Both of my older children have a favorite stuffed animal that they have to sleep with. If one of them is missing then it is a frantic search. I did just recently buy a twin to my DS stuffed puppy as backup.

  9. I am pregnant with our first child, so I cannot say what I've done, but can comment on what I will do, as my mother used to do for me when I would lose my "doggy doodle" or " pig" when I was little. She would tell me that all things happen for a reason and that losing this special toy just means that an even more special opportunity will arise, then she would go out and buy me a toy that she knew I wanted, and that simple act always seemed to appease me.

  10. Step 1: Have a back up plan! Avoid the situation entirely by stashing away a backup (or two) of the item in question. You could say "lovie went to the doctor and now it looks brand new" or something to that effect.
Step 2: If that doesn't work... search online for the object, scour the Earth, search every lost and found in existence, call every family member, and consider placing an ad in the paper.
Step 3: Give up. Hold your crying, whining child. Cry and whine with them. C'est la vie.

  11. I would try to make a new one or find one very similar. Luckily my lo is only 6 months and she hasn't picked a favorite yet :)

  12. My son's "best friend" is his 'doggie blanket' from AngelDear. When we realized he was growing attached to it, I bought a second one. We moved last year, and *both* doggies disappeared! After a week of tears, I finally broke down and bought a third. (The other two eventually turned up in random places - one was inside a watering can in the garage.) We have gradually trained him to accept that having one doggie is enough to sleep. We rarely know where all three are at any given time, but with three in the house, we can generally find one after a bit of searching.

  13. My son fell in love with a teddy bear that we had 3 of (thank god!). However, he lost one and I worried, he threw it out of the stroller on a walk... then he lost another one and I was in a panic, I finally checked every garbage on Main Street and found it (it was clean and in good condition, I can't believe someone would toss it like that.) I brought it home and cleaned it thoroughly. Then my husband found one online for $20 and we got one more. It's set aside, just in case.

  14. My son loves his Ice Bat UglyDoll. I have it on my Amazon wish list so I can reorder it if we ever lose him. So far, he has only been lost once and was found hiding under the couch after a FRANTIC search. :)

  15. My son isn't too attached to anything yet, but I have tried to make sure that he doesn't have anything that we can't easily find again.

    ReplyDelete
  16. We had to run out a few times to pick up a new mini baby from target!

    ReplyDelete
  17. My son carried a soft blanket everywhere for 3 yrs until we left it in a hotel on vacation. He was devastated and we never did get it back after many phone calls.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Speaking from experience - I left my blanket in Las Vegas when I was young and the hotel kindly mailed it back to my parents (it was a long trip home to NC). My daughter then attached herself to that same blanket mentioned above - even though it was beyond ratty, we have since cut some pieces of it up in case it gets lost!

  19. Thankfully my older child (4yo) will take a "substitute" for his lovey (A fleece John Deere blanket with tied edges). I just have to find one of the dozens of other tied blankets around here and it usually does the trick, although the John Deere is his favorite.
Then there is my daughter (2yo) who has several objects that are her "loveys" we're talking bath towels, any blanket she can wrap around her shoulders, whichever doll happens to be closest, etc.
So far it has worked fairly well to rotate blankets/stuffed animals etc. maybe one day I will have a child that won't easily take a substitute and I will be frantically searching for the poor lost lovey.

  20. My daughter is only 7 months so this hasn't happened to us yet, but I think I will try to find a back-up of the same toy/blanket she becomes attached to. !

  21. I would pray to Saint Anthony: "Dear Saint Anthony come around, something's lost and can't be found." It just a rhyme I learned in Sunday School but it once helped me find a rental car key that got lost IN THE OCEAN after it fell out of my brother's pocket while Snorkeling. A KEY. IN THE OCEAN. It also helped me the day my engagement ring slipped off my finger and I didn't notice until hours later (It was under the seat in my car). I'm a believer for sure. Thank you Saint Anthony!!

  22. My daughter freaks if she cant find her purple cuddle square.

    ReplyDelete
  23. My son doesn't seem to have any one particular thing that he is super attached to, so I have not had to deal with this. I on the other hand was very attached to my baby blanket, so I am super thankful that my kid isn't.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I am a momma with a back up plan for everything... So I would say just have two :P

    ReplyDelete
  25. I would take them shopping for a replacement. If we can't find the same thing I'd let them pick something new.

    ReplyDelete
  26. When we didn't bring my 2.5 year old's favorite blanket on a trip (oops!) she did surprisingly well. We talked to her about it, gave her the blanket we did bring, and told her that her blanket would be waiting for her at home. When we got home she ran back to her bedroom, bundled her blanket in her arms and said "I missed you!"

    ReplyDelete
  27. I grab another one off the shelf. :) He loves his Aden+Anais swaddle blankets and currently (at 17mos) doesn't care which one it is, as long as he has access to one.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I myself cry! Knowing the crazy time to come without the favorite thing...then I scour the internet to buy a replacement :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. My daughter doesn't have any favorites yet. She's 15 months, so maybe we're in the clear! I'm not sure what I'd do if something were lost.

    ReplyDelete
  30. We have a back up for this very reason! I was terrified we would be stuck if something happened and stocked up on a duplicate!

    ReplyDelete
  31. We have several of the same blankie.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I have heard of people who have multiples just for this reason, and they suggest having all of them used equally (parent switches them out), so that they will have the right feel and smell, etc. Personally, none of my 4 kids has really become so attached to one single toy/blanket/item. They like to sleep with animals and blankets, and they will be upset if the can't find the one they want at the time. However, they will be able to settle down with a different one. JCH

  33. My daughter has been carrying around the same yellow (well, yellowish now) chicken, creatively named Chicken, for the past 3+ years. A family friend got him for her when she was just a few weeks old and they've been inseparable ever since. One time, we came very close to leaving him at a Books-a-Million on a beach trip. Luckily, my dad ran back in for Chicken as they were closing, and found him. If we were to lose him, I'm not sure he could be replaced, and he isn't a commercial character you could easily find at a store. I think he came from Kohl's, probably there for Easter, and never again since. So we're just extra careful and make sure he's always with us when we leave places.

    ReplyDelete
  34. We purchased two so he always has a "Jerry" (the giraffe) and we have one on hold. There were a few weeks of nervousness off and on when he somehow got a hold on both-- oh dear! We had none in reserve! Lol. But we made it through, I was able to remove one at nap and now I put it high on a shelf far, far away from his little toddler hands (few places seem free from his reach these days!)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thankfully my children have never attached to anything other than pacifiers - which are easy to find and replace. But... each time I tried to train one of my babies to "love" something I would either maker sure that I had more than one or that replacements were available on ebay or Amazon. If any of my children HAD attached to something, I would have ordered at least 2 extras right away just in case they became harder to find down the road.

  36. The closest thing to a lovie that we have is a "binky" and she isn't that crazy about it. She only takes it at nap time to give me a break from constant nursing. If we lost a htf softbums, well that might just be devisating! :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Whip out the backup or use Grammy's Amazon Prime to get another ASAP!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I would have two on hand if possible.

    ReplyDelete
  39. We pretty much relegated dd1s to sleeping, so they really only get pulled around the house or occasionally the car if she isn't feeling well (and super sick by the time she actually takes it to the car). So on the occasion I can't find it she usually goes upstairs when it's bedtime and brings it back down from wherever she put it. There's only been once she couldn't find it and we ripped the whole house apart :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. My son has an eeyore security blanket. If we lost it... I am not sure what we would do. When I realized he was attached to it I bought another one - but he doesn't like the new one. Only his old, worn out one will do. I think we would both cry if he lost his eeyore. He actually threw him out of the car window once without us knowing and we spent a good hour or so tracing our steps and luckily found him. No more windows rolled down for him :p

    ReplyDelete
  41. So far, at 10 months old, my daughter hasn't attached to anything yet, and lately she's even been rejecting her pacifiers!

    ReplyDelete
  42. If we were going somewhere that was a high risk area for losing a lovie (any gathering with large crowds) we would have him leave it home to "babysit" the other toys and have him bring something he was less attached to.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I would try to have a back-up in the form of a- and identical item, b- an item that I've introduced also as a lovey earlier. There's safety in numbers. lol. :)

  44. We have a blanket we call Monkey. We've also bought a tiger blanket in a similar size to try to get him used to another lovie. It hasn't worked yet, but it doesn't stop me from trying!

    ReplyDelete
  45. We arent their yet as my child's lovie is mama's boobies. But that is going to be a whole other issue as she gets older. We are usually home so she can nurse and cuddle with mama's boobie no problem. But I can see it now--playdate and she needs her boobies uggg. Dont get me wrong nursing is fine, but my LO cuddles, moter boats, the whole 9 yards. Is this normal? She is 10 months and I hope she picks a lovie soon. Cause I just try to hide/lose the boobies and she isnt stupid she knows they are up my shirt somewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  46. As soon as we realized which lovey my daughter was starting to get attached to, I ordered another one from Target! Luckily, her aunt had shopped local, and they still carried it online! Came in handy when she got the stomach bug and one of them got thrown up on and was in the wash. :) We try to rotate both of them so they wear evenly. ;)

In the beginning, we tried rotating which lovey she slept with each night so she wouldn't get overly attached to one, but she just naturally gravitated to one (which I'm super grateful was NOT a boutique purchase!)

    ReplyDelete
  47. My son's favorite blankey actually came in a two pack for just this reason! It's the A&A security blanket. He loves sucking on the satin edges and crumpling it up in his hands. I love that there are two so I can give him the back up if one needs to go in the wash. If I ever lose one, I know I'll be ordering a new set immediately to replace it.

    ReplyDelete
  48. My daughter's favorite "friend" as we call them is a white cat beanie we got in an airport in Detroit when she was 2. She is now 6. Had I known that would be her favorite toy of all time, I would have stocked up. It was only like $4. Pretty White Kitty has been lost so many times, it's ridiculous. Of course, since she loses her so often, we don't let her take her out of the house unless it's a special occasion - overnight or something. Then, we try to keep her in the car, or suitcase as much as possible.

    ReplyDelete
  49. My daughter is insanely attached to minky giraffe blanket that I ordered for her when she was about 9 months old. It has her name on it. I have to schedule bedding laundry day around her nap because she will not sleep without it. Once I realized how attached she is to it I ordered another one for backup. I will do the same if and when my son ever attaches himself to anything. backups are good!

  50. My daughter lost her lovey at a local county park. I posted lost ads on craigslist and kept calling the park and looked everywhere! We never found poor lovey:(

  51. My Daughter has two lovies. Her first she got from her brother when she was 5 months old and it is a Woody doll and her second is a tye dye moose we got in the Minneapolis Airport botique shop. They have both been lost at some point and it felt like I lost one of my kids. i was in utter panic until I found them!! I don't know what I will do if we ever really lose one of them!

  53. My daughter took to a blanket that my friend made, so I had her make another one, and now my daughter doesn't care which lovey makes it with her to bedtime, she loves them both!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Luckily my son nor daughter have gotten attached to any certain toy yet but if that happens I hope to have a back up :)

    ReplyDelete
  55. We have several that we use for sleep so there is no frantic search!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Look like a crazy person. We do have a back up of blue fuzzy blankie. So far he is not attached.

    ReplyDelete
  57. there is no more frantic search then for the lost lovie (ok, maybe lost keys or wallet, but still)! Our kids' lovies are soft t-shirts over a snoodel doll so kind of hard to replace! Fortunately I am rather strict about when and where the lovie is carried so we haven't lost them yet. The websites and groups are new to me, that is awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  58. So far, he isn't attached to a lovie.

    ReplyDelete
  59. our girl isn't attached to one specific love as of yet, more so just every stuffed animal she can find!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I thank goodness haven't lost her lovie. BUT when it is in the wash, we replace it with anything that has satin on it. She's getting to the age where she needs to "loose" it, but I don't have the heart yet.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I tell thm we will find it, and pray that we do!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Luckily I was able to replace my son's lost giraffe with an identical one from the store.

    ReplyDelete
  63. We're currently looking for my son's lost Snoopy right now, but he seems to be distracted enough by the other stuffies that he has on his bed to not miss it TOO much! We tell him that we are looking for it and have him help us. It's a good way to get him involved in the search and not just to dwell on the "missing" aspect of it.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Thankfully we haven't lost one yet, but some friend did set us up for major failure. The lovey that my DD is currently attached to is only available in Europe.... I'm trying to wean her from it an on to an A&A blanket instead. A lot easier to replace...

    ReplyDelete
  65. Always have a backup! My LO is too young yet to have a favorite! When she does have one, I'll make sure to have a double! :)

    ReplyDelete
  66. well panic a little then look all over til I find it

    ReplyDelete
  67. So far we haven't lost much. When he was a couple of months old, he loved his Simba stuffed toy and I lost it! So we went out and bought him a new one. I felt terrible since I was the one who lost it. Right now we've been searching the house for trains that are lost! Luckily he has other cars, so he doesn't miss them much.

    ReplyDelete
  68. My wee one is just 2 months old now so she hasn't discovered lovies. This does make me think twice about buying that one of a kind organic terry cloth unicorn lovie.

    ReplyDelete
  69. My son doesn't really have a lovie. He's mostly attached to me, and I can't lose myself. I feel like I've lost my mind sometimes, but it always comes back!

    ReplyDelete
  70. ODD HASN'T formed an attachment to any one toy, however we always got more than one if it was a possible lovie

    ReplyDelete
  71. My son has a blanket and bunny that he always has when it's time for bed. We are about to take on a big trip with us and I'm hoping they will help him sleep wherever we are. AND we will tie them to the INSIDE of our backpacks haha!

    ReplyDelete
  72. My babies have't been super attached to one specific thing, the older one did have a 'buddy' and he is in BAD shape now and is retired (lol). I really try to have several on hand however if the beloved were missing I would honestly freak out myself and immediately start trying to buy a new one.

    ReplyDelete
  73. We bought my daughter a back up bear but she does not like the back up -she calls it "ucky bear" lol. So we just make sure we do not lose "good bear."

    ReplyDelete
  74. I usually explain that it has been missplaced or that it's playing hide and seek. This will elicit a whimper and a pout. They're still too young to get more bothered by it.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I haven't experienced a lost lovie yet.... But I do have a funny story from when I lost my lovie. Ironically, my lovie as a child was a basic prefold cloth diaper. I held it and rubbed my nose with it while sucking my thumb. My mom started out having several, because she obviously used them on us as diapers, but I was the last baby and they slowly disappeared either from overuse or just getting lost. As the story goes, one day we were in the car on the freeway and I was dangling my lovie out the window--who knows why. Well, of course, I dropped it. My older brother wittingly responded, "bye, bye diaper!". And that was it. No more lovie. I was about 4-years-old at the time. My mom said I was sad for a while, but then I announced I had solved my problem because I could just use one of my sweatshirts as my new lovie--and then I could take it with me everywhere!!! Apparently my favorite part of the lovie was the surged seam, and I found similar seams inside the cuffs of my sweatshirt. I like to think I'm resourceful. :)

    ReplyDelete
  76. My daughter hasn't decided on a lovie yet, she's only 7 months. But I really enjoyed ready all of your comments and suggestions.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I haven't experienced a lost lovie yet but we would do everything to find it.

    ReplyDelete
  78. we had to replace a lost lovie...with one that didn't even resemble the original. my son was clearly offended when we gave him the new one...but, overtime, he did come to love it. and now it is not allowed to leave the house

    ReplyDelete
  79. Oh my gosh - you have to find it! Go back to friends houses, stores, etc there is no sleeping without dog!!

    ReplyDelete
  80. It's never happened to us yet, but I think having a back up, or double, is a good idea, might not work, but definitely worth a shot :)

    ReplyDelete
  81. My sister had a fleece blanket that she loved to rub while sucking her thumb when she was little... but usually any fleece blanket worked as a substitute whenever she couldn't find 'fleecy'. She's the only one I remember who had a lovie or something close to it though.

    ReplyDelete
  82. My son doesn't really have a lovie just yet, although he likes his paci. We currently have 4 of them and he doesn't need any particular one, so we're fine. He cuddles with his Pooh Bear (from Gram) when he's sleepy, but we just leave it in his crib during the day while he's away...he doesn't need to take it with him.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Love all these suggestions! We're expecting our first, so I haven't encountered this situation yet, but I'm definitely going to use some of y'alls ideas!

    ReplyDelete
  84. Fortunately we haven't gone through this. My oldest is almost 4. He was very dependent on satin backed blankies. Because I wanted to regularly wash them we had four that we rotated through and he never got attached to just one of them. And we never lost any of them. My 14 month old also likes the satin backed blankies, he has two that we alternate. So far, nothing lost!

    ReplyDelete
  85. My daughter hasn't ever been too attached to one certain thing. Luckily she's older now so we could at least communicate with her a little more easily about the hows and whys of it being gone.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Fortunately it hasn't happened to us yet! We do try to be really proactive though - kind of keeping track of where it is, so at least we know where to look. We don't let them take favorite toys into stores (I lost my black baby pound puppy that way as a girl!) And I'll admit, when I saw a toy or blankie rising to the top, I found a comparable item and kind of did a rotation before it was too late. :)

    ReplyDelete
  87. These are some great ideas we will have to try when we have our first in a couple months!

    ReplyDelete
  88. expecting our first! so am going to be reading all these comments! =)

    ReplyDelete
  89. Haven't had to deal with that yet!

    ReplyDelete
  90. I read somewhere to buy an extra lovey (same exact one) for emergency use. Mine was given as a gift, so I have to go do that now- look it up and buy an extra for situations like yours! :)

    ReplyDelete
  91. DD doesn't really have a love or favorite toy. When she wants a random toy that isn't available, I just distract her with another one.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Haven't happened yet, but will be getting a replacement to have on hand!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Luckily neither of my kids (age 12 and 1.5) ever got attached to any lovies but my daughter loves to carry around an Aden + Anais swaddle blanket and we have quite a few of those!

    ReplyDelete
  94. We are not attached to material items.... If something is lost I check the playrook, the couch and my car.

    ReplyDelete
  95. My son never had a lovie. My oldest daughter has a few stuffed animals and a blanket that she loves equally, if one is lost she usually doesn't notice. The baby hasn't become attached to anything yet.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I haven't run into this problem yet, and I dread the day since I have no clue what to do if a lovey is lost! Other than tear the house apart...

    ReplyDelete
  97. My daughters lovie is a blankets I crochet for her. If she was to lose it I guess I would have sleepless night making her a new one

    ReplyDelete
  98. We have 2 of the same lovie and have been fortunate to not loose one yet. But if we do, we have a backup... i rotate them so they wear the same.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I have yet to experience this. I'm due May 24th. As a child I had a flat (blanky), but was never cloth diapered. If I lost the blanky, I'd be devastated until it was found. I sill have it to this day.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Fortunately my little on is still relatively young and has a lot of "favorite" lovies. Although I'm not sure what might happen if every single one of those lovies disappeared- that could be a disaster. :)

    ReplyDelete
  101. we have been lucky that we have never lost any loved objects beyond leaving them in the van, or losing them in a unmade bed. I dread the day that we lose something or good though.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I can't imagine that day. It is so hard to predict what they will get attached to and sometimes there really is no replacement. I typically try to make sure lovies stay at home and don't go places with us because that is my biggest fear.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Haven't had to deal with that yet but I have two so when it happens I'll be prepared!

    ReplyDelete
  104. We have a bunch of different lovies: one for grandmas, my sister/daycare has a bunch, one for the car and several for at home. I try to avoid losing them by not allowing them into stores etc.

    ReplyDelete
  105. We bought a second one the same as soon as my children showed a preference for a toy. That way we have a spare. Plus we do have a rule that the lovies don't leave the house unless they will be sleeping somewhere else.

  106. We'll find out! I tried in vain to get my daughter to attach to any sort of lovie, but all she wanted as a soother was a pacifier. She is now 3 yrs old, and will have her pacifier for two more days! I'm terrified! Wish us luck.

  107. Luckily my son isn't too attached to one specific item. He has different things at home, daycare, and grandma's. As long as he has a soft blanket then he is happy :)

    ReplyDelete
  108. I am so thankful this hasn't happened yet! My daughter is only 14 months and doesn't seem particularly attached to any one item yet.

    ReplyDelete
  109. We have lost lovies and "miraculously" the lovie's brother shows up. Once was an owl that looked almost exactly the same except for a patch of white on the belly;)

    ReplyDelete
  110. Dd isn't really attached to anything - thankfully! LOL Dd had her pacifier but once she started chewing holes in them, we stopped buying them and eventually, she chewed all of them up. She was old enough to understand but it was still a hard couple of days when she wanted it to go to sleep!

  111. I don't know yet, my first is due later this year. I'll definitely note the answers from the mommies here though.

    ReplyDelete
  112. I only had to worry about this with my son. I had several stuffed bears that looked exactly like the one he had. I rotated them just in case. XD That and it gave me a chance to wash them without him noticing.

    ReplyDelete
  113. i just keep looking for it until i find it. she doesnt get upset if one is lost

    ReplyDelete
  114. We haven't had this issue yet, but I'm debating on buying one to put away in the closet while I know I can still find them just in case.

    ReplyDelete
  115. We kept an eye out for what was my DS' favorite item. And then bought another one too keep as back up.

    ReplyDelete
  116. we are lucky that neither lo has a lovey

    ReplyDelete
  117. My son's lovey was a small dog that said I love you when its paw was pressed. when it stopped working about a year ago, he was so sad. We took it to my dad hoping he could fix it. Instead, he found a working one on ebay! Thank goodness for grandpas!

    ReplyDelete
  118. I am the favorite toy lol! Well we haven't had this problem yet of losing a favorite item so I'm not sure!

    ReplyDelete
  119. My LO doesn't have a lovie yet but I had a tip before that if ever they have a lovie, try to find another one so you can wash one or to replace if it gets lost. Ainee Ramos aineeramos@yahoo.com

  121. Yikes! Thankfully my kiddos never had any lovies, but I would say to stock up on that item and tag it! Be sure there is an email or phone number on it so it can be returned easily if lost.

    ReplyDelete
  122. First we tear apart the house, then we buy a replacement if we can. :)

    ReplyDelete
  123. she doesn't have any definite favorites yet, none that she goes crazy without... guess we'll find out lol

  125. Thankfully this hasn't been an issue for us. My boys loved burp cloths (any) and "buddies" (stuffed animals). They never picked 1 specific thing. My daughter is just 10 months, so we shall see what she does!

    ReplyDelete
  126. The only thing my son seems to be attached to right now is his "vroom vroom bed" aka the disney cars toddler bed. I can't really lose it.

    ReplyDelete
  127. My son is14 months and hasn't been attached to anything until recently he loves a certain blankie. I try using others in hope that we won't have an issue if it goes missing but I'm not sure what will happen if it gets lost and.I don't want to find out lol

    ReplyDelete
  128. He has so many things he loves that he doesn't miss a lost one.

    ReplyDelete
  129. My daughters "blankee" is a ratty old circo blanket that I think I bought on clearance when I was pregnant! Ha ha of course she wouldn't love one of the many (much) cuter blankets I bought her! If we ever lose it, we run around the house (even went to the neighbor's house @ 9:00 one night!) Like crazy people until we find it!

    ReplyDelete
  130. My two older kids never really got attached to one specific thing so we never had to worry about it!

    ReplyDelete
  131. We have multiples of all the favorites ... lose one, pull out another!

    ReplyDelete
  132. Oskar didn't attach to anything until well after he turned one. We were swaddling him in WAHM made muslin blankets we found on ebay. When we stopped swaddling he started using them as his BahBahs (that's what hubby's family calls them and it stuck). So he has three but they are all different colors. One is light blue and that is his daycare BahBah. He has orange and yellow at home. They must always stay in bed (our rule so he doesn't lose them in the house or worse out and about) and when we lay down for naptime or bedtime, he gives mama the orange one and he gets the yellow one. I have no idea what we will do if we lose one. I guess it will be a good opportunity to learn about loss. I don't have any back up BahBahs, but trust we will get through it together.

  133. I don't have my baby yet (2 more weeks) but if it was permanently lost....I'd buy another!

    ReplyDelete
  134. Neither of my girls have gotten attached to a lovie so we've never encountered this issue.

    ReplyDelete
  135. my son had a blanket that was his everything his band aid his towel his whip his hiding spot and his best friend we left it at a restaurant and they had tossed it. he was so devastated we were all devastated. he quickly moved onto a pillow and its still with him years later!!

    ReplyDelete
  136. we search and search until we can find her bear

    ReplyDelete
  137. I don't have a little one yet. I would try to calm them down though, and reassure them their toy will be found.
    Thanks for the giveaway! =)

  138. Try to buy a replacement :) My kids never had a "special" thing for some reason..

    ReplyDelete
  139. My daughter hasn't become too attached to one thing yet. If she ever does I don't know what I'll do because I might not be able to find a replacement then for the stuffies she has.

    ReplyDelete
  140. My son has a few loveys so he generally doesn't notice if one is missing for a short time. There is one in particular we'd have to try and replace though.

    ReplyDelete
  141. my 23 month old is only really attached to one blanket, but if he doesn't have it it isn't the end of the world. he will cuddle with just about anything soft and fuzzy with a tag.

  142. We look for his favorite toy like crazy when it is lost. If it cannot be found we convince him it's ok to bring a different one.

    ReplyDelete
  143. i cried. ours is one that is $50 to replace on ebay. luckily it ended up in the church lost and found. also lost it at a hotel once. they had it in their lost and found too. i fear the day we really lose it. luckily he seems to be moving to other stuff too....

    ReplyDelete
  144. we try to find it of course, but then we make or do something special so that maybe he gets that things aren't everything... hard to explain to a little guy.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Fortunately we haven't had to deal with a lost lovie.

    ReplyDelete
  146. My daughter is only 3 months so no favorite toy yet!

    ReplyDelete
  147. That's why we bought a backup ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  148. My little guy is only 7 months old, so he hasn't found a favorite toy yet. I have been trying to get him to like a lovey that we've cuddled with since we're in the middle of separation anxiety. So far it has worked for bed time and he doesn't seem to need it outside of his crib!!! I think the lost lovies sites are awesome though! It's great that people want to help each other out :)

    ReplyDelete
  149. Maybe you could find some material like it and sew a twin?

    ReplyDelete
  150. Thankfully it's never happened before!

    ReplyDelete
  151. Baby isn't here yet, so I don't know. Crossing my fingers it doesn't happen though!

    ReplyDelete
  152. I do not have any children yet, but when I was younger I was very attached to a Barney stuffed animal. I lost it and was devastated, I could barely sleep at night without it. My mom went out an bought me a new barney stuffed animal and what would you know, my old one showed up a few days later. Turns out I had put it in the oven of the play kitchen at my daycare :)

    ReplyDelete
  153. Fortunately, my baby hasn't lost hers yet. But she's only 8 months, so there's still plenty of time for her to lose her lovey. Currently, her lovey is a little square aden+anais blanket with satin edges. And it comes as a 2-pack, so I already have a replacement! (which I will hopefully not lose)

  154. My daughter isn't attached to a lovie. My son though loves his wubba nub pacis. We have 4 just in case!

    ReplyDelete
  155. My daughter is only 4 months old so we dont have a lovie or favorite toy yet

    ReplyDelete
  156. Fortunately, my son doesn't have a lovie, but he does have a favorite toy. I guess if we lost that toy, we'd try to get it back, and if we couldn't, we'd get a replacement.

    ReplyDelete
  157. We haven't actually lost a lovie yet, but when we noticed our son was getting attached to his blanket, we immediately purchased a few more. When we travel, we always ship (or leave it there from the previous visit) his blanket so that even if our luggage is delayed somewhere, our son will still sleep. :-D

    ReplyDelete
  158. I search until I find it. Actually in 4 years we have only lost his "blue blanky" once. He dropped it in a store, and I didn't realize he had it with him until we got home. Off to the store daddy went to look and found it.

  159. My son is only 3 months old, so we haven't experienced that yet. However I have considered buying an extra of whatever he does love the most. That way we have one in case he loses the first one. Rachel Allen rvbarb@gmail.com

  160. We try really hard to find it or a substitute is possible.

    ReplyDelete
  161. My LO doesn't have a lovie but Id try to buy a new one.

    ReplyDelete
  162. it hasn't happened yet, but she has a favorite bunny.. we never let it leave the house, though it may travel with us in august, i'm hesitant.

    ReplyDelete
  163. So far no favorite toy, but when he's upset nursing always works!

    ReplyDelete
  164. My baby boy doesn't have a lovie yet, but we are all about tough love, he'll eventually get over it or find a new one.. I'm not going to search the world for it.

    ReplyDelete
  165. She hasn't lost her blanket yet, but when her blanket is being mended yet again by Gramma she has to use a different blanket. She's not happy but she survives. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  166. my girls never had a favorite they have so many as long as she has something to cuddle with their good

    ReplyDelete
  167. My first child has not become attached to anything in that way, plus we have a no toys leave the house rule

    ReplyDelete
  168. My son has never been attached to any particular toy, so if he asks for a certain one and I can't find it, I just offer him a different one and he's fine with it. My daughter, on the other hand, is completely obsessed with a blanket she got when she was 3 months old. She is nearly 2 now and carries it around with her everywhere. We call her Linus from Peanuts :) I bought a back-up, but she TOTALLY knows the difference and freaks out if I try to give her the back-up while her main one is washing. I don't know what I'd do if she lost it, but she is never far from that blanket so it hasn't been a problem yet.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Our LO isn't here yet, but I would try having a second of the same thing, esp if it's a stuffed animal.

    ReplyDelete
  170. My nephew just lost his blanket the other day. We've been trying to "wean" him off of it by encouraging him to "leave it in a safe place" like in the cubby at school or in the car, but he managed to lose it and is still fairly attached. He's sad about it, but we let him chose a "replacement" blanket until he finds his. (Who knows if we will.)

    ReplyDelete
  171. Luckily my daughter doesnt have anything she seems really attached to.

    ReplyDelete
  172. I bought two back up blankies, the exact same, off of ebay for a ridiculous amount of money and my daughter refuses them :( So when we can't find it, it is full panic mode-all hands on deck until we find it. cabriolian@yahoo dot com

    ReplyDelete
  173. We haven't experienced that, but I would probably try to get them to like more than one item, so if one goes missing, there's a backup!

    ReplyDelete
  174. Search high and low, then distract them with other activities when you can't find them. I live this crowd sourcing idea, though!

    ReplyDelete
  175. I keep a close eye and my children's favorite things. For my older son, it is his batman and superman clothing items. Generally the only time they disappear is as a consequence for bad behavior! My daughter (now 5) used a paciphier (the only one of three), called her "Too-toot" and it had to be a particular kind. At one point they were not being stocked.. so I bought about 5 packs so I would always have backups.

  176. My child has lots of favorite toys, so I try to distract him with a different toy until we can find it!

  179. Our child hasn't been born yet, but I'm not sure what we'd do. He'd probably have to make due without it and it would be a learning lesson.

    ReplyDelete
  180. We had to make do - poor Ploppers the Puppy was lost/left in a hotel room in florida when on vacation - there were tears shed, but at that point my son was 6 (had Ploppers since birth) that we explained the situation and he seemed to understand, it was certainly immensely sad for me :)

    ReplyDelete
  181. I plan to avoid the lost toy scenario at all cost. Favorite toy doesn't leave the house. They can choose another toy that has less emotional significance to them when leaving so if the toy gets misplaced it's not a big loss.

    ReplyDelete
  182. None of my children have gotten really attached to one specific lovey. They have always rotated through favorites.

    ReplyDelete
  183. Don't have to worry about that just yet - we are due with our first in July.

    ReplyDelete
  184. I'm lucky that my daughter doesn't have one special toy that she needs.

    ReplyDelete
  185. He doesn't have a special toy or anything. He's happy with anything!

  187. I turn the house upside down and retrace my steps, all the while saying a prayer to St. Anthony to help me find it. So far there are only 3 things left on my to-find list that are still out there somewhere. lol

  188. My babe isn't attached to any toys yet, but he does love his teething rings, so I always try to have two on had at all times.

  192. Ugh, I saw my son's lovie (an impulse clearance buy at Walmart) for $79 on ebay ;) I've tried making a replacement, but he won't take to a different minky and I haven't seen that particular style of minky for sale, lol. Really wish I had just cut it in half when I realized it was "the one" ;)
